Differential Pressure Transmitters

Sensocon differential pressure transmitters convert a pressure difference between two points into a stable electrical signal for monitoring, trending, alarms, and control. They are commonly used to measure pressure drop across filters and coils, duct static pressure, airflow restriction, and room-to-room pressurization in critical environments.

For a broader overview of measurement options, see our Differential Pressure category.

For applications that require local display, onboard controls, or integrated alarms, consider our Digital Differential Pressure Gauges & Controls .

What Is a Differential Pressure Transmitter?

A differential pressure transmitter measures the difference between a high-pressure port and a low-pressure port and outputs a continuous signal (most commonly 4–20 mA, but other outputs may be available depending on configuration). That continuous output is ideal for building automation systems (BAS), PLCs, SCADA, and data logging where you need more than a simple gauge indication or a switch contact.

Do you only need a Mechanical Differential Pressure Gauge?

If your application does not require a 4-20 mA output, a traditional mechanical gauge may be a better fit. For a side-by-side evaluation of a popular mechanical option, see our Sensocon S2000 vs. Magnehelic comparison .

Common Applications

  • HVAC filter monitoring: trend pressure drop across filters to optimize replacement schedules and reduce energy waste.
  • Duct static pressure: monitor system performance, verify balancing, and detect restrictions that cause comfort complaints.
  • Fan and coil performance: detect gradual fouling or airflow degradation before it becomes a failure.
  • Cleanrooms & laboratories: maintain room pressure differentials for containment, safety, and compliance.
  • Dust collection & industrial ventilation: monitor filters and airflow conditions to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Process airflow / pressure monitoring: measure DP across elements in process equipment where continuous data is required.

Why Use a Transmitter Instead of a Gauge or Switch?

  • Continuous signal for trending: spot gradual changes and predict maintenance needs.
  • Better integration: connect directly to BAS/PLC inputs for alarms, automation, and reporting.
  • Remote visibility: view conditions from the control room instead of relying on walkdowns.
  • Documentation: produce logs for audits, troubleshooting, and performance validation.

Selection Guidance

To choose the right differential pressure transmitter, match the pressure range to your application (filters, ducts, room pressurization, etc.), confirm the required output signal (commonly 4–20 mA), and consider environmental needs such as mounting location, enclosure requirements, and media compatibility. Sensocon supports a wide range of configurations to fit typical HVAC and industrial use cases.
